What the Switch’s strange game library is bringing to the system

Nintendo has always been comfortable doing its own thing, but the Switch’s design itself means that developers can’t approach it with the same strategy they bring to other consoles.

 

 

Would we still have gotten Mario + Rabbidsif Ubisoft could just port all of its existing games to the Switch? It’s very possible, but the end result is that the Switch has a Ubisoft game you can’t get anywhere else.

 

 

The relatively underpowered hardware and the portable nature of the Switch’s design are a double whammy for big publishers. The fact that you can bring the system anywhere means that players have a strong incentive to purchase games on the Switch rather than on other platforms. Buying a game on another console doesn’t mean you gain better visuals; it means that you lost portability. That’s what separates the Switch from the disappointing Wii U, and why it might have better longevity than the Wii. Nintendo has been chasing this sort of strategy for a long time, but the Switch may represent the first time all the pieces have fallen into place.

 

 

Nintendo has found an effective way re-energize publishers’ back catalogs and entice indie devs who want to compete on a different playing field than PC and the other consoles, while also making sure the game catalog of the Switch itself is both high-quality and idiosyncratic.

 

A more expensive, and more powerful, version of the Nintendo Switch that matched the big game releases of the Xbox One and PS4 note for note might have been just as successful, but I doubt it. It also would have been much less interesting.

Vi får se om Nintendo kommer med noen overraskelser. Kan ikke akkurat si at noen av ryktene over her får blodet til å bruse.

 

(En del av meg håper at hele Fire Emblem raser sammen som et korthus sånn at vi kan få et nytt Advance Wars, men det er muligens litt grinete av meg.)

Fikk ikke sove og skummet gjennom ResetEra-tråden. :p Mye bra rykter (som sannsynligvis ikke blir noe av). :p

Mario Tennis Aces release date for the Nintendo Switch has been made public prior to the latest Nintendo Direct. A listing on Japanese retailer Rakuten confirmed that we'd be seeing Nintendo's mascot take to the tennis court on June 22 this year. It follows a prior leak from Amazon.

Mario Tennis Aces has a story mode complete with missions and boss battles. Not since the days of the Game Boy Advance has Nintendo done this. Featuring classic characters from the Mushroom Kingdom, it's priced at $60 (roughly Rs. 3,825)

Diablo 3 og N. Sane Trilogy er nok ikke så usannsynlig, men at Black Ops 4 kommer til Switch, det tror jeg ingenting på. Black Ops 3 på PS3/X360 kontra PS4/XboxOne var jo en helt grusom opplevelse. Switch har heller ikke nettverksinfrastrukturen til å rettferdiggjøre et så online-basert spill.

 

Her tror jeg nok det er en salig blanding av rykter, hvor ikke alle nødvendigvis har med Switch å gjøre. Det har tidligere vært rykter om et CoD-spill til Switch (bl.a. Black Ops 2), og så er det blitt ryktet at årets CoD blir Black Ops 4, kanskje disse ryktene blandet sammen?
