  1. 'There's No Hunger in Gaza,' Say Netanyahu, the Israeli Army and Media. Meanwhile, Starvation Worsens https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2025-08-14/ty-article-magazine/no-hunger-in-gaza-say-netanyahu-the-israeli-army-and-media-as-starvation-worsens/00000198-a8a1-d539-a5b8-fdf186180000 The well-documented rising starvation in Gaza is now acknowledged by nearly the entire world, yet Israel continues to peddles the lie that it's all a "Hamas conspiracy". (...) Severe hunger prevails in the Strip. Some findings already point to famine, the most extreme level of food deprivation. The evidence is clear, wide-ranging, unequivocal and cross-checked. It comes from multiple sources, from different parts of Gaza, from local and foreign sources, from data and images, from reports and video footage. In fact, it even comes from Israel itself, which announced a complete halt of food entry into the Strip for two and a half months, beginning in early March, and then reported the renewed delivery of a minimal amount for a few additional weeks (an average of 71 trucks a day to feed two million people). The main evidence of the severity of the situation comes from an extensive medical operation, focusing on measurement of the circumference of toddlers' upper arms. It's a simple test: Measuring tape is wrapped around the upper arm, and anyone whose arm has a circumference that is below the norm is classified as malnourished. According to UNICEF, these tests are currently being conducted at 289 locations around the Strip. In July alone, the arms of about 140,000 Gazan children under the age of 5, out of 320,000 toddlers and children living in Gaza, were measured. The results? Nearly 9 percent of the youngsters suffer from severe malnutrition, compared to 2 percent in February. Data collected by the UN paints the following picture: Tens of thousands of children under the age of 5 in the Strip are suffering today from acute malnutrition, with several thousand experiencing severe acute malnutrition. According to the most recent assessment, compiled at the end of last week, the rate of children suffering from severe acute malnutrition continues to rise. There is a host of additional evidence deriving from reports from the Ministry of Health in Gaza on the surge of deaths attributed to starvation, which numbered 227 this past Wednesday, including 103 children; high food prices in the markets; hospital records and accounts from desperate doctors; before-and-after photos shared by Gazans; testimony from foreign doctors volunteering in the Strip; and video clips and calls documenting the severity of the situation. The authors of this text have conducted a live video tour in a clinic for starving patients in Gaza and have thus witnessed the catastrophe firsthand. (...) According to Israeli pediatrician Dr. Michal Feldon, "We see many children with chronic illnesses in Israel, and not a single one of them looks this emaciated. If children arrive at hospitals in Israel looking like this, we suspect abuse or neglect – even in the case of chronic patients – and involve social services and the police." Anyone who has been following the reports from aid organizations has not been surprised by the worsening situation. From the moment a complete blockade on Gaza was announced and food entry was halted in March, reports of the emerging humanitarian crisis multiplied. The number of children suffering from severe malnutrition was rising. Even when Israel opened the border crossings, it allowed food in sparingly. And even when the amount of food increased, Israel insisted – and continues to insist – on not returning to the UN's food distribution program, which is based on numerous community kitchens and distribution of aid to families based on an organized system of registered recipients. The reality of burgeoning hunger in Gaza has now been recognized by almost the entire world. This week, 24 countries signed a declaration calling for urgent action to stop the starvation there. Among the signatories were France, the U.K., Japan, Sweden and Switzerland. Even the prime minister's last remaining supporter in the global arena, U.S. President Donald Trump, reportedly shouted at Netanyahu that he had seen clear evidence of starvation.
  2. Germany tells Israeli government to stop West Bank settlement construction https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/article-864333 Germany on Friday called on the Israeli government to stop settlement construction in the West Bank after Israel's far-right finance minister said work would start on a plan for thousands of home that would divide the Palestinian territory. Germany "firmly rejects the Israeli government's announcements regarding the approval of thousands of new housing units in Israeli settlements in the West Bank," said a foreign ministry spokesperson in a statement. Plans for the "E1" settlement and the expansion of Ma'aleh Adumim would further restrict the mobility of the Palestinian population in the West Bank by splitting it in half and cutting the area off from east Jerusalem, said the spokesperson. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced on Thursday that work would start on the long-delayed settlement, a move that his office said would "bury" the idea of a Palestinian state. In a statement, Smotrich's spokesperson said the minister had approved the plan to build 3,401 houses between an existing settlement in the West Bank and Jerusalem. Germany has repeatedly warned the Israeli government to stop settlement construction in the West Bank, which violates international law and UN Security Council resolutions.
  3. Jaha? Hashtags funker ikke her inne.
Settlers said to injure several Palestinians, torch property in overnight attacks https://www.timesofisrael.com/settlers-said-to-injure-several-palestinians-torch-property-in-overnight-attacks/ Husband and wife reportedly wounded and hospitalized after settler raid, the first of 3 separate attacks overnight, none of which resulted in arrests. Extremist settlers were reported to have injured several Palestinians and torched their properties in a spate of attacks on West Bank villages overnight Thursday. The attacks came amid a burgeoning wave of settler violence in the West Bank, with two Palestinians reported killed this month amid clashes in the territory. At around midnight, a man and his wife were wounded in the southern village of Susya, after a gang of settlers were said to have attacked their home. Footage from the scene showed a middle-aged man with a bloodied head and torso. The two were evacuated to a hospital. Located in the South Hebron Hills, Susya is one of several villages in the area that have been frequently targeted by settlers from nearby outposts in recent years. Shortly after that incident, settlers were said to hurl Molotov cocktails at homes, vehicles and property in the Palestinian village of Atara in the central West Bank. Then, early Friday morning, three young Palestinian men were injured by gunfire after settlers reportedly raided the village of Al-Mazra’a Al-Sharqiya, east of Ramallah, according to Palestinian state-run outlet Wafa. The village and its surrounding area have also seen a major uptick in settler violence, particularly over recent months. In July this year, two residents, one of them an American citizen, were killed in nearby Sinjil during a reported settler raid.
Israel in talks with war-torn South Sudan about taking in Gazans https://www.timesofisrael.com/israel-in-talks-with-war-torn-south-sudan-about-taking-in-gazans/ Israel is in discussions with South Sudan about the possibility of resettling Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to the war-torn East African country, part of a wider effort by Israel to facilitate mass emigration from the territory left in ruins during 22 months of fighting against Hamas. Six people familiar with the matter confirmed the talks to The Associated Press. It’s unclear how far the talks have advanced, but if implemented, the plans would amount to transferring people from one war-ravaged land with famine risks to another, and raise human rights concerns. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he wants to realize US President Donald Trump’s vision of relocating much of Gaza’s population through what Netanyahu refers to as “voluntary migration.” Israel has floated similar resettlement proposals with other African nations. “I think that the right thing to do, even according to the laws of war as I know them, is to allow the population to leave, and then you go in with all your might against the enemy who remains there,” Netanyahu said Tuesday in an interview with i24, an Israeli TV station. He did not make reference to South Sudan. (...) Joe Szlavik, the founder of a US lobbying firm working with South Sudan, said he was briefed by South Sudanese officials on the talks. He said an Israeli delegation plans to visit the country to look into the possibility of setting up camps for Palestinians there. No known date has been set for the visit. Israel did not immediately respond to a request for confirmation of the visit. – Samtidig er Israels viseutenriksminister nå på besøk i Sør-Sudan hvor hun har samtaler med presidenten: Deputy FM visits South Sudan as government weighs moving Gazans there https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/deputy-fm-visits-south-sudan-as-government-weighs-moving-gazans-there/ – Mer: https://www.i24news.tv/en/news/israel-at-war/artc-israel-in-talks-to-resettle-gazans-in-south-sudan-ap-reports While details of the negotiations remain unclear, the prospect of transferring displaced Palestinians from one conflict-ridden region to another raises serious humanitarian and ethical concerns. South Sudan, itself still grappling with the aftermath of a civil war and ongoing political instability, faces significant challenges including famine and poverty. Sources reveal an Israeli delegation is expected to visit South Sudan soon to explore the establishment of temporary camps for Palestinians. Reports indicate Israel may fund the construction of such facilities.
As humanitarian crisis deepens, Israeli aid groups gingerly open up about work in Gaza https://www.timesofisrael.com/as-humanitarian-crisis-deepens-israeli-aid-groups-gingerly-open-up-about-work-in-gaza/ With disaster at its doorstep, IsraAID and SmartAID are providing water, healthcare and more to the Strip, acting as a bridge for both UN-backed NGOs and US Jews unable to stand by. (...) Steering clear of any scintilla of politics or international diplomacy had been key to the group’s work, allowing it to keep its head down and focus solely on the humanitarian mission. “In some ways [it made] our work easier,” he said. But conditions in the Strip have reached the point where Polizer can no longer keep quiet. “The reason I’m going public with our work in Gaza is that the humanitarian situation there is extremely severe, and the only way to address it is to work together with Israel and allow organizations like ours — that understand both humanitarian and security needs — to take the lead,” he said.
'War must be stopped': Israeli fighter pilots to protest outside IDF's HQ, call for Gaza deal https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/article-863982 Pilots in active reserve service and former pilots from the Israel Air Force are expected to hold a quiet demonstration on Tuesday outside the Kirya (military headquarters) in protest of the government's decision to approve the plan to expand the fighting in Gaza despite the opposition of IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, who warned that the plan would endanger the lives of the hostages. The demonstration is expected to take place near the base's "Shaul" gate, near Hostage Square in the Tel Aviv Museum plaza. "The demonstration started from a very small initiative by a few former pilots and quickly gained momentum," a former veteran pilot who plans to participate in the protest told Walla. (...) "This is a demonstration of support for the chief of staff. Our message is simple. That he should stand by his principles in the spirit of the IDF against the government and not give in to political pressure. That he should not just go to war in Gaza. That soldiers should not just be killed. The war has exhausted itself. The demonstration will be very specific and will focus on the tension between the chief of staff and the government."
Italy’s defense minister says Israel has ‘lost humanity’ on Gaza, weighs sanctions https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/italys-defense-minister-says-israel-has-lost-humanity-on-gaza-weighs-sanctions/ Italy’s defense minister says in an interview published today that Israel’s government has “lost reason and humanity” over Gaza and signaled an openness to potential sanctions. “What is happening is unacceptable. We are not facing a military operation with collateral damage, but the pure denial of the law and the founding values of our civilization,” Defense Minister Guido Crosetto tells La Stampa daily. “We are committed to humanitarian aid, but we must now find a way to force Netanyahu to think clearly, beyond condemnation.” Asked about possible international sanctions against Israel, Crosetto says that “the occupation of Gaza and some serious acts in the West Bank mark a qualitative leap, in the face of which decisions must be made that force Netanyahu to think.” “And it wouldn’t be a move against Israel, but a way to save that people from a government which has lost reason and humanity,” he continues. “We must always distinguish governments from states and peoples, as well as from the religions they profess. This applies for Netanyahu, and it applies to [Russian President Vladimir] Putin, whose methods, by now, have become dangerously similar.”
F.eks. her.
Australia to recognize Palestinian state in September; New Zealand weighs following suit https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog-august-11-2025/
Global Jewish leaders to Netanyahu: Israel policies fueling antisemitism worldwide https://www.ynetnews.com/jewish-world/article/ryuckvguex Thousands of leaders from Jewish communities around the world—including prominent figures from North America, the United Kingdom and other countries—have signed a letter addressed to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, warning that his government’s policies and rhetoric are causing “lasting damage” to both Israel and global Jewry. (...) The letter, sent Thursday, states that the decisions of the Israeli government have harmed Jews around the world. “We recognize the painful dilemmas any Israeli government must confront when facing such threats,” the signatories wrote. “However, we cannot ignore the ongoing damage being caused by the policies and rhetoric of your government—to Israel, to its international standing and to the prospects of achieving a secure peace for both Israelis and Palestinians. This has serious consequences not only for the State of Israel, but also for the well-being, security and unity of Jewish communities in the diaspora.” The letter adds that current policies are also fueling antisemitism worldwide. “As past, present and future leaders of Jewish communities, we do not remain silent in the face of external threats to Israel,” the letter continues, “nor will we remain silent when we believe that the policies of Israel’s government are endangering the strength, security and sustainability of both Israel and global Jewry. We will continue to raise our voices and encourage others in our communities to do the same. We call on the heads of leading institutions and organizations in our communities to make clear that politicians who use racist language are not welcome among us. We reject actions and speech that contradict our values, our history and tradition, Israel’s Declaration of Independence and the rule of law.” The signatories urge the prime minister to ensure the provision of food and humanitarian aid to Gaza residents, to reach a deal to return all hostages and end the war, and to clearly commit that Israel will neither attempt to resettle Gaza nor pursue or support policies of expelling Palestinian civilians. The letter also calls on Netanyahu to crack down on Jewish extremist violence in the West Bank. “If the Israel Defense Forces, when ordered by you, can launch a missile through a window in Tehran and eliminate an Iranian general with pinpoint accuracy, then it certainly has the ability to maintain order in the West Bank, prevent extremist violence, protect Palestinian civilians and enforce the law,” the letter states. The authors also criticize racist and inflammatory remarks by members of Netanyahu’s government. One example cited is Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu, who recently said, “The government is racing toward erasing Gaza... Thank God we are erasing this evil... All of Gaza will be Jewish.” The letter calls such statements “a moral abomination and a desecration of God’s name,” asserting that they violate Jewish values and the foundational principles of the State of Israel. – Hele brevet kan leses her: https://thelondoninitiative.org/a-letter-from-world-jewry/
'We will shut the country down': Tech firms will join hostage families on nationwide strike day https://www.ynetnews.com/business/article/syossh800ge Israeli tech companies and venture capital funds, including Meta, Wix and Fiverr, are backing a nationwide strike organized by families of hostages and fallen soldiers; The action aims to halt economic activity and demand the immediate rescue of hostages and soldiers from further confrontation in Gaza. The High-Tech Headquarters, which includes dozens of leading Israeli high-tech companies and venture capital funds, has announced that it will allow employees to participate in the strike organized by the families of hostages and fallen soldiers next Sunday, August 17. Companies that have declared their support include Meta, Wix, Fiverr, HoneyBook, Mint Media, Fireblocks, BigID, Papaya Global, Rempy, Natural Intelligence and others, alongside venture capital funds such as Qumra Capital, Pitango, Disruptive, NFX and more. "We are at a critical juncture in the story of the Israeli nation, and we cannot stand idly by. IDF Chief of Staff’s words are clear: soldiers are being sent into a deathtrap, and the lives of the hostages are being put at certain risk. This is a moment when every Jew and Israeli, who holds the values of the sanctity of life and mutual responsibility dear, must show their support for the families, stand by them and demand an end to the war and the immediate return of all the hostages in one step," the high tech headquarters said in a statement.
Hostage families call for Aug. 17 nationwide shutdown over Gaza City occupation plan https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/article-863769 Yaniv Levi, a representative from the Histadrut, Israel's national trade union, told KAN that the union plans to meet the hostages' families on Monday to consider future actions. The families of the hostages and bereaved families announced on Sunday that they would initiate a nationwide shutdown the following Sunday to protest the Security Cabinet's decision to occupy Gaza City. At a press conference in front of the Kirya military headquarters in Tel Aviv, families represented by the October Council said that Sunday, August 17, would mark a nationwide shutdown in protest of the Security Cabinet's decision to occupy Gaza City, which they say endangers the lives of the hostages and soldiers. The families said the shutdown is expected to include private companies, organizations, and labor unions.
