Netanyahu said set to order full takeover of Gaza, despite IDF qualms, risk to hostages https://www.timesofisrael.com/netanyahu-reportedly-looking-to-order-full-takeover-of-gaza-despite-idf-qualms/ Senior official close to PM quoted saying ‘the die is cast — we are going for a full occupation of the Gaza Strip,’ also suggests IDF chief resign if he opposes move. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly told ministers this week that he will seek cabinet backing for a plan to fully occupy the Gaza Strip, despite objections from within the Israel Defense Forces. According to reports in Hebrew media, several ministers said Netanyahu used the term “occupation of the Strip” in private conversations describing his vision for the expansion of military operations in Gaza — a notable shift in tone as the government prepares to discuss the future of the Gaza campaign. The Ynet news site quoted a senior official close to the premier as saying, “The die is cast — we are going for a full occupation of the Gaza Strip.”

Sylvi Listhaug kritiserer Israels krigføring for første gang, men hun nekter å fordømme.

Press Netanyahu to end Gaza war, former Israeli defense chiefs ask Trump in letter https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/defense-news/article-863123 Over 600 former senior security officials asked the US president to compel Netanyahu to end the war in Gaza. Former Mossad chief Tamir Pardo, former Shin Bet chief Ami Ayalon, and former deputy IDF chief Matan Vilnai on Sunday announced they had sent a letter to US President Donald Trump requesting that he compel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end the current war. This information was provided to The Jerusalem Post ahead of other media. These top officials, along with top former police and foreign ministry officials, lead the Commanders for Israel’s Security (CIS) group – which now makes up over 600 former senior security officials – in making that call on Trump to intervene. It is not the first time that the group has pressed the government to shift gears and focus more on returning Israeli hostages and on a post-war plan for Gaza, but it did emphasize how desperate Israel’s situation is globally in terms of legitimacy, as well as Trump’s own recent public criticism of Israel for causing starvation in Gaza. (...) In the letter, CIS wrote to Trump, “Stop the Gaza War! On behalf of CIS, Israel’s largest group of former IDF generals and Mossad, Shin Bet, Police, and Diplomatic Corps equivalents, we urge you to end the Gaza war. You did it in Lebanon. Time to do it in Gaza as well.” Next, CIS stated, “The IDF has long accomplished the two objectives that could be achieved by force: dismantling Hamas’ military formations and governance. The third, and most important, can only be achieved through a deal: bringing all hostages home.” Moreover, they argued, “It is our professional judgment that Hamas no longer poses a strategic threat to Israel, and our experience tells us that Israel has all it takes to deal with its residual terror capabilities, remotely or otherwise. Chasing remaining senior Hamas operatives can be done later. Our hostages can’t wait.” Further, CIS wrote, “Your credibility with the vast majority of Israelis augments your ability to steer Prime Minister Netanyahu and his government in the right direction: End the war, return the hostages, stop the suffering, and forge a regional-international coalition that helps the Palestinian Authority (once reformed) to offer Gazans and all Palestinians an alternative to Hamas and its vicious ideology.” CIS has succeeded in the past in influencing Biden administration policy, and in the more distant past, sometimes the Netanyahu government’s policies. However, more recently, both Trump and Netanyahu have been on somewhat of an “anti-generals” trend whenever they face up against defense chiefs who disagree with their policies.

Channel 12’s poll also indicated that 67% of respondents feel that the government’s policies don’t represent their will, with just 29% saying that the government represents them. Even among voters of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition, 44% of respondents said that the government’s policies do not represent their will, compared to 51% who said that they do. Regarding the hostages and the war in Gaza, 62% of respondents said that the government should promote a comprehensive deal to return all captives held in the Strip, while 28% said they support intensifying the military operation and occupying the entire Palestinian enclave. Meanwhile, only 4% said they support promoting a partial deal to release about half of the living hostages and dead hostages, which is the framework that has been discussed in negotiations for the past several months.

Stadig flere israelske kjendiser mener Israel begår folkemord i Gaza. With ‘broken heart,’ author David Grossman calls Israeli actions in Gaza ‘genocide’ https://www.timesofisrael.com/with-broken-heart-author-david-grossman-calls-israeli-actions-in-gaza-genocide/ Literary giant and peace activist tells Italy’s La Repubblica that the very use of the word in association with Israel signals devastating moral collapse tied to ‘the occupation’ Award-winning Israeli author David Grossman called the country’s campaign in Gaza a “genocide” on Friday for the first time, noting that he uses the term with “immense pain and a broken heart,” in conversation with the Italian daily La Repubblica. His comments came amid rising global alarm and anger over widespread hunger in the war-torn territory due to the insufficient entry of food. “For many years, I refused to use that term, ‘genocide,’” the prominent writer and peace activist told the newspaper. “But now, after the images I have seen and after talking to people who were there, I can’t help but use it.

Netanyahus sikkerhetsminister Ben-Gvir beskylder Tyskland for å "støtte nazismen igjen" (!). Ben-Gvir accuses Germany of 'once again supporting Nazism' as FM visits Israel https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/politics-and-diplomacy/article-862916 (...) Wadephul issued a statement earlier on Thursday, saying that the recognition of a Palestinian state comes more at the end of the negotiations for a two-state solution, but that process must begin now, warning Berlin would respond to "unilateral steps. "In light of open annexation threats from parts of the Israeli government, a growing number of countries - including many in Europe - are now prepared to recognize a Palestinian state even without a prior negotiation process. The region and the Middle East peace process are therefore at a crossroads," the foreign minister added." The Israeli far-Right minister took to to X/Twitter in response, claiming that "80 years after the Holocaust, Germany is once again supporting Nazism."

Trump convinced Netanyahu prolonging Gaza war for political reasons — report https://www.timesofisrael.com/trump-convinced-netanyahu-prolonging-gaza-war-for-political-reasons-report/ White House officials tell The Atlantic that US president, eager to fulfill campaign promise to end Gaza war and foster Mideast peace, is increasingly disenchanted with PM. US President Donald Trump has come to believe that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is prolonging Israel’s war in Gaza to hold on to political power, according to two Trump administration officials who spoke to The Atlantic. The Thursday report claimed, based on several unnamed sources, that Trump and many of his aides are more eager than ever to bring the fighting in Gaza to a close amid widespread condemnation of Israel’s wartime conduct, including from a growing faction of isolationists in the Republican Party. With negotiations for a hostage and ceasefire deal once again facing steep hurdles, the American president has reportedly become convinced that Israel already achieved its military objectives in Gaza long ago, and that the current fighting is fueled chiefly by the premier’s political interests.
