11:25 It took a while, but EA has finally announced the system requirements for its long awaited PC RTS, The Lord of the Rings: The Battle For Middle-Earth, with the minimum spec processor proving to be considerably higher than originally expected.

 

It was widely believed that The Battle For Middle-Earth would carry the same minimum requirements as Command & Conquer: Generals, but this estimation has proved way off the mark, both in terms of memory and processor power.

 

The minimum specifications for the game will require your PC to pack at least a 1.3GHz processor, 256MB RAM, a whopping 4GB of free hard disk space and a 32MB video card with at least an NVIDIA GeForce 2 GTS or ATI Radeon 7500 chipset.

 

Online play will require at least a 56K modem. Also, you'll need 512MB RAM for Network and Internet multiplayer games featuring 3 or more players, while Online games of this size will also require a Broadband connection.

 

The news about the minimum processor requirements will come as a disappointment to PC owners with lower spec machines, though with the game set to generate hundreds of units on screen at a time, we're not all that surprised that The Battle For Middle-Earth is proving significantly more power hungry than the less epic Generals.
