Kiss Opteron 144 og 146 goodbye, mail fra shg/amd

I’m sorry to write to you in English, my Norwegian isn’t that good, so if you having problems with understand the email, please don’t hesitate with emailing me back – Norwegian is fine, I’ll reply in Danish or English.

 

 

The reason for emailing you is that you have a backorder with you, including an AMD Opteron CPU. We’ve had the backorder with AMD since the middle of November, and up to this day we’ve only got 4 pieces of one of the Opteron 100 series delivered. We’re getting different info from AMD and our distributor all the time, but now I got some bad news from AMD directly.

 

 

From the email under my email, there’s an email from AMD which stats that AMD is changing their prices on their Opteron 100 series. They’ve actually cancelled our orders, and are now taking up to several hundreds NOK more for the CPU. We can’t get the CPU’s delivered to the price you ordered.

 

However this isn’t the worst news (understand me correct, this is extremely bad!), AMD is not going to deliver our old orders to the old price or the new price as they’re not going to sell the Opteron 144 and 146 to end-users (you!), as it’s meant to be a server CPU, and not a CPU for a typical end-user.

 

For reference please see the attached email, AMD is describing the problem.

 

 

What does this mean to you? Well first of all, the price is now higher on this CPU, so I can’t sell it to you at the old price since AMD is charging more for the CPU then before. However as I already wrote, now it’s impossible for us to when buy them from AMD, which results in this issue, and now it isn’t possible for us to get a hold of the Opteron CPU.

 

 

 

I’m extremely sorry about this, both for AMD and shg.no, it’s not professional at all. I can only say that we’re extremely sorry that we’ve taken orders for this CPU, and first now, 2 months later, find out that AMD is not going to support us with these CPU’s.

 

If you’re interested in another product, Athlon64 or Athlon64 X2, please write back to me, I’ll try to give you the best possible price at all, just to show how sorry we’re for not being able to supply you with your order!

De har så mange. Er det denne som er best? CNPS 7700-CU.

Du kunne ikke være elskelig å legge ut det brevet også eskarls?

Kunne vært litt interessant å se akkurat hva som bli sagt, og hvem det skal selges til, kun produsenter, firma, eller hva :)

 

Det ser jo ut til at du kan gjøre en god handel her uansett da, og med den siste tidens venting og prisøkning, vil de fleste i praksis ha omtrent tilsvarende glede av en 3700+ vil jeg tro. :)

Just to get a complete strait answer, the Opteron’s isn’t going to be delivered at all? We have more then 150 pcs in backlog from the costumers, so it would be the best to explain them, that we can’t deliver them at all – even with the new price?

Hi Michael,

I understand both you and your customers frustration, but you will most probably not receive any more Opteron 144’s or 146’s. Availability is very limited (even with this price increase) so we will only be able to support identified commercial server/workstation opportunities. Maybe you shouldn’t mention to much about the price increase but just inform your customers that these parts not will be available… (and the customers will not be able to get them elsewhere either!)

I’m fully understand the reason for your decision, however I’m having huge problems with the end-user, they’re demanding to the products for the ordered price – several of them are to the Danish Consumer Department, as they feel they should have the price which they ordered them to… And that’s hard to argue against, but I’ve can’t sell them a CPU with over 65 € in loss.

 

It’s extremely frustrating for us as a shop, you’re losing costumers on this issue, which isn’t good for business and our name.

 

We had over 80 Opteron 146 in backlog, most of them have cancelled they’re order, and not only on the CPU, but also for a full system. So are losing costumers and orders 

 

The decent thing would be to deliver those you have in backlog, and charge the higher price of new orders… It’s a sad thing, AMD is losing a lot of goodwill from the costumers – everybody who had written back to me had many bad words against this new price change.

 

I’m not mad at AMD, but somewhat frustrated, both for the end-user and as a company.

Well, I understand that you are a little upset regarding our price move. But, please understand that these parts (the Opteron 100-series in 939-package) never were intended for more general (=general desktop) use – the Opteron is a server and workstation processor and it’s intended for server and workstation applications.

 

Demand for the Opteron 100-series (especially the lower model numbers) has been very high and since availability has been rather limited we have only been able to support special identified commercial server applications.

 

The background for our price increase is the limited availability of our lower model numbers but especially that we want the pricing for these be more in line with both our other Opteron offerings and also our current desktop pricing.

I think it’s extremely sad, that AMD after two months is changing the prices to such heights that we’re getting in trouble with costumers – especially the end-users who have orders for over 2 months to the old price.

 

We have over 200 Opterons in backlog from our end-users, some since the middle of November. We’re without a doubt going to get a lot of trouble and emails from the end-users who are mad.

 

I hoping AMD would reconsider your strategy and price changes in the future; this “stunt” is not going to be popular with the end-users :-(

 

I sincerely hope this is the first and only time it happens… :-(

Ok, takk for infoen eskarls, det var vel kanskje litt mer konfidensilet enn jeg trodde, med det får jo bli ditt valg hva du legger ut her :)

De sier jo ikke stort om hvordan utvelgelsen av Opteron kjøpere vil bli, jeg tenkte kanskje det ville være mulig for firmaer eller likn, men syns ikke det ble så mye klarere.

Det som ble fryktelig mye klarere er at AMD gir pokker i sine forhandlere, og dytter alle økonomiske/kundemessige problemer over på en liten dansk webshop.

 

Dette var skremmende elendig behandlig, de (AMD) har jo tabbet seg grovt ut, fulstendig feilberegnet markedet, og bør da ta det på sin egen kappe!!

At de ikke "hadde tenkt" at vi skulle kjøpe Opteron i steden for 3700+ er da ikke butikkenes problem?

 

Levere det som er bestilt frem til denne beskjeden kom ut, er jo hva de burde gjort om de ikke var noen arrogante tullebukker :thumbdown:

Hvis noen bestiller en vare fra en nettbutikk,trodde jeg det var juridisk bindende begge veier.Altså er man vrang,kan vel ikke butikken gå vekk fra bestillingen med en enkelt mail?

Skjønner at AMD kommer til å øke prisene på Opteron fremover,men har butikken lagt ut en vare til en pris,må de vel selge til den prisen,om det tar uker før varen innfinner seg,og prisen fra leverandør stiger?

Har selv en bestilling inne på Databutikken fra tidlig Desember,og fikk en mail om at det kan ta lang tid å skaffe varen,men hørte ikke noe om at de ikke kunne selge til avtalt pris.

Er man med på leken,får man tåle steken :)
