It's actually not as big of a story as a.) it requires that the user be connected to an unsecured WiFi network' date=' which accounts for only a percentage of the actual use cases of Android phones (meaning the 99% statistic, while technically accurate, is overblown in practicality), and furthermore requires that the person stealing the information be on the same WiFi network in order to get access to any data. At that point, the data was limited to contacts, calendar, photos, and perhaps some other unnamed information. It is neither confirmed nor likely that any financial information such as credit card numbers were in any way vulnerable. This hole also does not mandate any service outages for end users. Additionally, while mildly inconvenient, there are ways for the end-user to protect themselves.

In contrast, exactly zero circumstances were required to be met besides being a PSN user for the entire PSN account, including credit card information, to be leaked. Millions of users data was actually taken, as opposed to hypothetically taken as is the case with this Android vulnerability. Furthermore, due to this security breach, Playstation owners have been without PSN service for weeks, unable to access the services they regularly use. There is nothing that any user can do to protect themselves, and we're still waiting on a fix.

Is this Android vulnerability a big issue? Yes. Does it deserve to make headlines? Yes. And it's being dealt with accordingly. There is backlash (you're reading it, ffs), but it does not compare to the PSN issue by a country mile.
