In the market for a hot hatch? Wait a few more months and you could get your hands on one of the quickest yet - Audi's new S3.

 

The three-door-only S3 is up for grabs from September with a price tag of around £27,000, and the first cars will reach customers in January 2007.

 

The S3's 2.0-litre engine is similar to the Golf GTi's but boasts a bigger turbocharger to help it to 261bhp. This power sees the S3 from rest to 62mph in 5.7 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 155mph, which makes the Audi one of the fastest hot hatches around.

 

Audi tells us that the S3 will still be able to return 25.7mpg combined economy even with the added power of the new engine.

 

A six-speed manual gearbox is the only transmission option for the time being.

 

Standard four-wheel drive is de rigeur for any fast Audi and is present and correct in the S3, which means it will also be able to tackle the likes of the Subaru Impreza WRX and VW Golf R32.

 

Eighteen-inch alloy wheels come in a unique design for the S3, and front black-painted brake callipers are embellished with a distinctive S3 logo.

 

The suspension has been lowered by 25mm compared with a standard A3 and uses more aluminium and stiffer mounting points to improve handling and response.

 

The steering has come in for attention to sharpen its feel, and you can order a flat-bottomed steering wheel similar to the S4's as an option.

 

The interior also boasts hip-gripping bucket seats finished in cloth and leather as standard, or with Alcantara or full leather as options.

 

Aluminium is used for the gear knob, foot pedals and various pieces of trim, while the S3 logo features on the steering wheel and doorsills to remind you that this is the fast version.

 

There's no doubting which model you've picked from the outside, thanks to the deep front spoiler, side skirts and rear diffuser finished in platinum grey.

 

Audi's S division aluminium door mirrors are in place, and a rear roof spoiler finishes off the S3's well-balanced aggression.

 

We'll have to wait a wee while before finding out what the S3 is like to drive, but folks at Audi promise it will be every bit as sharp as the new TT.

Jeg har altid hatt en forkjærlighet for audi, denne bilen setter uten ikke en stopper videre kjærlighet til audi-biler. En helt kjemep nydelig bil dette, meget pen.

 

Interiøret var veldig pent, måten ting var plassert på, veldig bra!
