Square-Enix's annual attendance to Jump Festa today is just as predictable as every year. They've brought along their lovable Closed Mega Theater and in it they're showing a brand new Final Fantasy XIII trailer in private. We'll be relying on the scattered trailer descriptions as usual to find out what happened.

Apparently this trailer stars a new male character who has a "shota" like nature. We'll be expecting another feminine character as per usual. He might have an unusual way of speaking.

There is supposed to have been new never seen before battle footage with Snow fighting by kicking and punching. They're defending the Pigtails girl. Lightning fights using a mix of melee and shooting attacks.

They summon Shiva during the battle shown. She freezes them using Ice magic and then runs them over in her motorcycle form.

Another new character seems to have been shown in the trailer. It's apparently a young Asian woman.

The combat is seamless in the trailer. Imagine running around an FFXII worldmap but the camera and character locking on when in an encounter like FFX.

Lightning is planning a prison break to free the Pigtails girl. Snow is the one leading the attack. Lightning is apparently in a straight jacket which leads into the original train footage on the prison train back in 2006.

Snow is the one wanting to get back the Pigtails girl but Lightning says she has already been captured by the fal-Cie. She hits Snow and says "You didn't protect her! did you!" to which Snow replies "Therefore I came to help".

The battle taking place in the trailer is really fast paced, more so than any other Final Fantasy game.

Snow and Lightning frees the Pigtails girl who's being taken away by guards. Snow gives her a machine gun and she introduces herself as "Vanilla" (Almost 100% confirmed to be her name now).

Every character in the trailer is voiced.

We'll update you when we get more information.

The scores for Dissidia appeared in this week’s Famitsu. The game garnered a 36 out of 40, won a Plantinum award and was the top pick of the week. I’ve gone through and translated the reviews so we can read these professional opinions for ourselves.

Score: 10, nominated it for “Best Picks of this Week”

With a number of distinguished characters appearing together, it is not a mere party, but plays out like a expertly told story. The prerendered movies are first-rate. The pillar of the game is how easy controls and consistent learning curve meld together with “captivating” action. Like most FF games there is an abundance of customization, all finely detailed. The only issue is that it can occasionally feel hard to understand what is going on around you.

Score: 9, nominated it for “Best Picks of this Week”

With speedy battles, this game of fast pursuits and balancing offense and defense is hot. It’s difficult to completely master the characters, especially as enemies become more formidable as your level goes higher. Its fascinating how there are an infinite amount of ways to customize. This is really handheld gaming at its peak. Regarding the story itself though, my opinion of that isn’t quite the same.

Score: 9, nominated it for “Best Picks of this Week”

Able to produce battles that look like scenes out of Advent Children, the simple controls make it easy to enjoy. But, it doesn’t end there, as an exacting history and story have also been woven into this game! If you do as I did while playing, I’m sure you’ll relish all the special effects and take your hat off to the overflowing amount of little tricks you use. This will positively reward all of the fan speculation (hype).

Score: 8

The ability to steal your opponent’s “Attack Power” (Brave) through your attacks is a unique addition, as is the novel gameboard style over-world map used in this game. Because of the number of technical terms, even when you play through the tutorial understanding it all can still be a problem. The battles are refreshing, and the character customization keeps some of the RPG feel.
