Ubuntu 10.10 krasjer randomly. Hvorfor?

Jeg har nyinstallert Ubuntu 10.10 på en comaq nc6000 bærbar. Har benyttet Ubuntu på denne maskinen nå i ca 1 år og det er bare etter nyinstallasjon maskinen fryser. Jeg kan ikke trykke ctrl+alt+F2 for å hoppe ut av grafisk modus når dette skjer. Hard reset og ny start løser problemet. Typisk tar det fra 10 min og utover til maskinen fryser.

 

Når maskinen fryser, så går for fult, så det tyder på at cpu jobber med noe. Administrasjon - loggvisning har en rekke logger. Hvor starter jeg letingen?

Memtest86+ og Memtester er installert på denne maskinen. Programme(ne) skal startes under oppstart i grub tror jeg.

 

Hvordan gjør jeg dette? Står ikke noe om dette på Memtest86+ sine sider.

Under oppstart etter bios skjermen, trykk "ESC" dette skal få frem GRUB skjermen(hvis den ikke vises automatisk), der er det et valg som heter Memtest, så er det bare å la den kjøre ferdig.

Jeg tror ikke selve ext4 er problemet. Leste nylig at google drev og gikk fra ext2 til ext4 på samtlige av sine servere så da tror jeg det burde være ganske sikkert å satse på.

 

Opplever litt lignende ting og da er det disken min som jobber for harde livet av en eller annen grunn. Lar det stå i 20-30 sekunder så kjører alt glatt igjen. Sånn sett kan det jo virke som om filsystemet har noe med saken å gjøre, men dette opplevde jeg aldri i 10.04 hvor jeg også kjørte ext4 :hmm:

Du kan undersøke innholdet i /var/log/messages. I Ubuntu så skal systemloggeren sette inn markører med faste intervall, slik at du ser "progresjonen" selv om ingenting skrives til loggen. Dette kan brukes til å finne den relative tiden til kræsj.

 

dmesg-kommandoen skriver bare ut innholdet i kjernen sitt meldingsbuffer. Dette har -- ikke overraskende -- en fast størrelse, og vil "rotere" dersom det fylles. Siden innholdet ikke bevares over oppstart, så er det ikke alltid at utskrift av dette gir noen indikasjon på problemer. Og når systemet har kræsjet så er det kanskje ikke mulig å skrive ut innholdet. Den eneste generelle indikasjonen på feil som blir oppdaget under kjøring av kjernekode, er utskrift av en "kernel oops". Dette kan føre til kernel panic, men da vil skjermbildet antakeligvis være fryst dersom det er X som styrer grafikkortet.

 

Når systemet ser ut til å ha hengt seg, så kan du prøve å logge inn vha. SSH eller lignende tjenester (som telnet eller rsh), for å kjøre dmesg-kommandoen. Dersom du er veldig villig til å skrive ut innholdet i meldingsbufferet, så kan du koble til en annen maskin med firewire- eller seriellkabel.

 

Dersom det er en ATA-driver som kræsjer, så kan dette føre til samme oppførsel som du har observert. Hvis du orker, så kan du prøve å fremprovosere disk-/IO-driverrelaterte problemer ved å kjøre iozone, bonnie++ eller lignende. Lett skal det ikke være :)

 

PS! Dersom systemet har stupt i en kernel panic, og "magic sysrq" er aktivert i kjernen, så kan du starte systemet på nytt med AltGr+SysRq/PrtScrn+(r,e,i,s,u,b). Dersom ikke filsystem eller annet relatert er årsak til feilen, så gir dette systemet en mulighet til å skrive buffere ut til disk.
