Hei

I used the default BIOS settings.

I inserted the Windows XP cd in tray.

Manage to format the harddrive, and copy the innstalation files.

The system reboots, and the Windows Logo appears for some seconds.

Then the screen is blank. The harddrive you can hear working for some minutes and then stops.

The monitor remains blank.

I have to force the machine to restart (not possible on keyboard).

New hardware:

Motherboard: Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe

CPU: AMD64 2.2Ghz +3500

Memory: Corsair XMS C25 Kit 2 x 512MB - CL 2.5

Power: 430W PSU.

Old/used hardware:

1 harddisk 7200RPM from year 2000. Seagate.

PCI Graphic card 16 Mb or less memory

Do I have to something in BIOS to be able to install Windows XP?

I tried to install Linux, and I tried to run a "live" operating-system from a CD, but always t! he same happens: the screen turns blank before OS fully loads (the monitor turns blank when changing resolution and frequency) . The monitor LED always remains green, this means that it recieves signal.

Could it be the Video card having to little memory?

I ran diagnostics to test memory, CPU, harddrive and all turned out to be in perfect state.

I set the PCI clock sync mode to 33.33 but no difference.

But I've discovered something more:

when trying to load a Live-OS from a CD I can see the the monitor turns blank ( monitor Led remains green )when a command is started, a command

saying something about Frequency, resolution.

I tried to Install Windows XP to an external harddisk (new, 300GB Maxtor). The Windows setup manages to format and copy all innstallation files to "the external harddrive". Then the windows setup reboots the system. When the machine is restarted I either see the Windows Logo for some seconds and then the monitor turns blank, and after forcing to restart I get the "Windows Bluescreen"

To install Windows XP using my motherboard (ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe), is the default BIOS settings ready for the innstallation? Or do I have to modify any setting in BIOS? Does the shadow/caching" have to be disabled in BIOS (where do I find this setting)?

The graphic card has 2Mb of memory. Could this be to little?

Could it be the monitor that doesnt show/support certain resolutions/frequencies?

The graphic card is the following model:

SIS 6215c GUI Accelerator (2 Mb RAM)

I checked SIS-website and could not find any drivers (for this card) for Windows XP. So my conclusion: this card is simply "old".

The card is from 1998 or even older.

So this is a Graphic Accelerator, what I need is a Graphic Card, right?

When I buy this motherboard, do I only have to plug all the hardware/cables, before innstalling Windows XP? Or if this is not the case what do I have to do?

Only 1 harddisk (ATA) I connected, do I need to configure it in the RAID

utility?

The BIOS sees the harddisk when plugged.

Kjempefint om noen har forslag:-)

P.S: Svar meg på norsk hvis det er lettere.

All indications points to the graphic card. Not enough RAM and/or the card does not support the frequency at the resolution windows try to set.

Invest a couple of hundred kr. in a new budget model graphics card. Since you went ahead with that old pci "steam machine", your needs in regards to graphics are basic. A good choice would be something like this card
