2. If the drive has been switched to hardware based BitLocker it is in TCG Opal mode and you will not be able to secure erase it in that mode. You would have to switch it back to ATA Security features with Revert SP procedure. It can be done with this tool ( http://forum.crucial.com/t5/Crucial-SSDs/PSID-Revert-tool-alpha-release/td-p/148982 ). After that secure erasing with PartedMagic you got should work with no problem. Then in order to prevent Windows from switching the drive back to TCG Opal mode during installation you would have to set ATA drive password in BIOS. With the drive password set in BIOS the drive is in ATA Security features mode and Windows will not switch it to TCG Opal mode during installation - you should be able to install Windows 8.1 and then bitlock the drive with software encryption if that is your choice.
