Max Brooks - World War Z £6.45

"It began with rumours from China about another pandemic. Then the cases started to multiply and what had looked like the stirrings of a criminal underclass, even the beginnings of a revolution, soon revealed itself to be much, much worse. Faced with a future of mindless, man-eating horror, humanity was forced to accept the logic of world government and face events that tested our sanity and our sense of reality. Based on extensive interviews with survivors and key players in the 10-year fight-back against the horde, "World War Z" brings the very finest traditions of American journalism to bear on what is surely the most incredible story in the history of civilisation."

Jeff Carlson - Plague Year £3.53

"To set the scene the world is infected by a plague of nanites which eat anything warm blooded that they come in contact with, but deactivate in areas where the air pressure is less than 70% that of sea level. This produces mountain top islands that are inhabited by those who have escaped the plague.

"

Kevin J. Anderson & Doug Beason - Ill Wind £4.87

"It’s the largest oil spill in history: a crashed supertanker in San Francisco Bay. Desperate to avert environmental damage—and a PR disaster—the multinational oil company releases an untested “designer microbe” to break up the spill.

An “oil-eating” microbe, designed to consume anything made of petrocarbons: oil, gasoline, synthetic fabrics, and of course plastic.

What the company doesn’t realize is that their microbe propagates through the air. But when every car in the Bay Area turns up with an empty gas tank, they begin to suspect something is terribly wrong.

And when, in just a few days, every piece of plastic in the world has dissolved, it’s too late..."

Rebecca Levene - Kill or Cure: We All Go a Little Crazy Sometimes! (Afterblight Chronicles) £3.62

"Jasmine has spent five years underground, locked in a secret government bunker with no one but the skeletons of her colleagues for company. Outside, the world has gone to hell, a mysterious virus killing all but one in 20 of the world's population. It's enough to drive anyone mad - but Jasmine's crazier than most. The cure she was working on had an unexpected side effect: psychotic symptoms which only the most powerful drugs can suppress. Jasmine's quest to find a cure draws her across the fractured continent of America and into the darkest recesses of her past."

David Wellington - Monster Island: A Zombie Novel £5.76

"It's one month after a global disaster. The most "developed" nations of the world have fallen to the shambling zombie masses. Only a few pockets of humanity survive — in places rife with high-powered weaponry, such as Somalia.

In New York City, the dead walk the streets, driven by an insatiable hunger for all things living. One amongst them is different; though he shares their appetites he has retained his human intelligence. Alone among the mindless zombies, Gary Fleck is an eyewitness to the end of the world — and perhaps the evil genius behind it all.

From the other side of the planet, a small but heavily-armed group of schoolgirls-turned-soldiers has come in search of desperately needed medicine. Dekalb, a former United Nations weapons inspector, leads them as their local guide. Ayaan, a crack shot at the age of sixteen, will stop at nothing to complete her mission. They think they are prepared for anything. On Monster Island they will find that there is something worse even than being undead, as Gary learns the true price of survival.

I dag kom det 3 nye Solskinnshistorier fra The Book Depository:

Brian Keene - The Rising £4.44

"The dead are returning to life as zombies. But they are not just flesh-eating ghouls, they are intelligent, capable creatures that are taking on all forms of life: both human and animal. Trapped by the undead, escape seems impossible for Jim Thurmond. But Jim’s young son is alive and in dire peril hundreds of miles away with his ex-wife and her husband. Despite overwhelming odds, Jim vows to find him— or die trying.

Joined by an elderly preacher, a guilt-ridden scientist, and a determined ex-prostitute, Jim embarks on a cross-country rescue mission. They must battle both the living and the undead. And for Jim and his companions, an even greater evil awaits them at the end of their journey. This is the time of...The Rising."

Joe McKinney - Dead City £3.23

"Battered by five cataclysmic hurricanes in three weeks, the Texas Gulf Coast and half of the Lone Star State is reeling from the worst devastation in history. Thousands are dead or dying - but the worst is only beginning. Amid the wreckage, something unimaginable is happening: a deadly virus has broken out, returning the dead to life - with an insatiable hunger for human flesh...Within hours, the plague has spread all over Texas. San Antonio police officer Eddie Hudson finds his city overrun by a voracious army of the living dead. Along with a small group of survivors, Eddie must fight off the savage horde in a race to save his family...There's no place to run. No place to hide. The Zombie horde is growing as the virus runs rampant. Eddie knows he has to find a way to destroy these walking horrors...but he doesn't know the price he will have to pay."

Simon Spurrier - Culled (Afterblight Chronicles) £4.78

"The Blight arose from nowhere. It swept across the bickering nations like the End of Times. As the numbers thinned and societies crumbled, the survivors picked their way between silent streets and looked out on the squalid new order. Hotheaded religion and territorial savagery rule the cities now. Somewhere, amidst the chaos, a damaged man receives a signal, and with it the tiniest flicker of hope. This is the chance to rediscover the humanity he lost, long ago, in the blood and filth and horror of the Cull.

The Afterblight Chrinichles is an exiting new series of high-action post-apocalypse fiction set in a world ruled by crazed gangs and strange cults"

Er litt seint ute med å poste her, men får la det gå for denne gong.

I forbinding med kulurhovudstadsåret 08, er det plassert ut "levande boksamlingar" i Stavangerområdet. Her kan ein byte bøker.

Eg såg mitt snitt til å kvitte meg med eitpar plasstjuvar i bokhylla. I mai månad tok eg mot til meg, og starta utvelginga.

Mine nyvinningar står fyrst, deretter innbytebøkene i kursiv.

H.P. Lovecraft - The call of Cthulhu, and other weird stories./ Irvine Welsh - Trainspotting.

Charles Bukowski - Pulp./ Erlend Loe - Organisten.

Dominic Streatfield - Cocaine, a definitive history./ Erlend Loe - Volvo Lastvagnar.

Er storfornøgd med bytet. Einaste skuffinga var Lovecraft, sidan eg hadde litt høge forventningar til han. Bukowski leverte bra, og Streatfield serverer gonzo på høgt plan.

Cocaine anbefalast på det varmaste.
