    News: Freeloader Press Release!

    Jan 31st 2003 17:33 by Tim

At last, the most hotly anticipated gaming accessory ever is now available to buy!

Imagine an amazingly powerful product that can help you beat any GameCube game – or breathe new life into the old games that are clogging up your cupboard. A product that’s also capable of playing import games from any country in the world – without any hardware modifications to your console!

Imagine no longer because Action Replay, the incredible new cheat code system that unleashes the true power of your Nintendo GameCube, is about to ship! You’ve bought the games…now you can play them like a pro with Action Replay.

Action Replay is the only cheat code system designed specifically for GameCube. Using Datel’s advanced proprietary technology, the Action Replay cheat code system can unlock even the toughest games quickly and easily, including Super Mario Sunshine, Star Fox Adventures and Resident Evil.

Gain infinite health, max ammo and all weapons. Unlock secret characters, hidden levels and bonus games. Access all areas, drive any vehicle, and award yourself wealth beyond your wildest dreams. There’s no limit to the amazing codes that your Action Replay can activate!

Straight out of the box you get a GameCube-sized Action Replay disc which contains over 1,000 preloaded cheat codes for 60+ PAL GameCube games (plus loads more codes for US and Japanese games). You also receive a piece of hardware which must be inserted into your memory card slot before the Action Replay CD is loaded. This special card stores any new codes that you input (for example if you buy a new game), letting you build your own customised library of cheats.

Action Replay puts you in control. Maybe you want to unlock everything in a game – infinite health, ammo and time, access all levels and vehicles, and much more? Or instead you might want to activate just the one or two cheats you need to get you that little bit further in the game. It’s your choice!

One of the most requested features of Action Replay is Datel’s revolutionary “FreeLoader” technology. This groundbreaking feature lets you enjoy the latest Japanese and American NTSC games on your European PAL GameCube – sometimes many months before they’re released in Europe. Without “FreeLoader”, a European GameCube will simply refuse to play anything but European games.

The FreeLoader function is very simple to activate – the gamer chooses the menu option on-screen, then is prompted to swap the Action Replay disc with the import game disc. Now you can play GameCube games from any region without any fuss or hassle. What’s more, you can even use Action Replay’s cheat codes and enhancements on your import games!

“We are delighted to be launching the GameCube’s first ever cheat code system,” said Datel’s managing director Mike Connors. “It’s taken longer than we originally expected, but we’ve used that extra development time to create a polished and immensely powerful product that will delight gamers everywhere.”

He added: “Our next release is Action Replay for Xbox. We’ll be announcing the launch date in February.”

Action Replay for GameCube starts shipping on 12th February 2003, with a recommended retail price of £29.99.

FreeLoader, which is a standalone import game enabler, ships on 5th February 2003 with an r.r.p. of £19.99.

Summary of features for Action Replay:

January 29, 2003 - Company Datel Electronics today announced that it would release a videogame cheat and enhancement product called Action Replay in the US on February 18. The device will compete directly with the GameShark brand of videogame enhancers, which have still to ship on Nintendo's next-generation machine.

A basic Action Replay with a standard memory card will retail for approximately $39.99, according to the company. Meanwhile, gamers can also purchase an Action Replay packed with a 1000-block memory card for $49.99.

The Action Replay for GCN comes pre-loaded with more than 1000 codes for 60 games, including Super Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime, Animal Crossing and James Bond 007: NightFire. Updates on Datel's website reveal how to unlock the original Metroid in Metroid Prime without a GBA connection, and similarly how to find classic Zelda and Mario games in Animal Crossing.

"We're very excited about introducing a new group of gamers to the power of Action Replay," says Doug Parsons, managing editor for Datel Design & Development. "Nintendo gamers will now have an option to get past difficult sections in a game or give an older title new life. Of course if you just want to crank up your ammo and have some fun, you have that option too."

We'll have an update on the product, and a review, in the not too distant future
