Når bruker man "image" og når bruker man "picture" på engelsk? Kom over problemstillingen da jeg skulle velge mellom profile image/profile picture, og user image/user picture til et web-prosjekt :)

Hey,

"image" and "picture" are pretty much interchangeable, you can use either, really.. I would only suggest that if you are referring to a photograph then perhaps "picture" might be more appropriate... A picture is always an image but an image isn't always a picture... In my mind an image would be more like, say a diagram for example.. hmm I think I might have confused myself greatly in trying to explain this... did I make any sense? Good thing I didn't attempt it in Norwegian

Slik jeg har forstått det (kan jo selvsagt være feil) er at man bruker "picture" ved foto og "image" ved en grafisk fremstilling.

I guess an image could also relate to something imagined. A mental picture, that isn't necessarily present. Of course image could mean so much more as well, for instance in computer terms, you could backup your hard-drive by creating an image (file) of it. A picture on the other hand is in my mind something concrete, like a picture hanging on the wall etc. Yet you can still use "picture" as a form of imagination. "Picture yourself ten years from now".

As already stated, I guess "interchangeable" isn't really wrong. But what do i know...

Maybe this whole post was kind of "out there"... who cares, I'll stop speaking now.
