Today Nokia launched their latest series of mobile handsets, the enterprise business oriented Eseries models. Comprised of the E60, E61, and E70, the new Eseries devices all support WiFi data connections as well as SIP compliant VOIP clients for linking into WiFi based office PBX phone systems. This allows Eseries device users to make and take calls in the office just as if they were on a normal office extension, with access to 4 digit dialing to other extensions and assisted call answering.

 

On top of the advanced voice functionality, all of the devices support a wide array of enterprise email solutions. The current list of supported systems include: BlackBerry Connect, GoodLink, Nokia Business Center, Seven Mobile Mail, Seven Always-On Mail, and Visto Mobile.

 

As a further tip of the hat towards corporate IT managers, the new Eseries devices all are capable of being centrally managed via OMA Device Management support. This system will let companies control and protect their data that is stored on the Eseries devices, even to the extent of allowing the data to be remotely erased and the device itself locked.

 

These latest Nokia devices all run on the third edition of Nokia's popular Series 60 platform, which itself is based on the brand new Symbian OS v9.1 (the same OS used in the Sony Ericsson P990 that was announced earlier this week).

 

The E60 is a voice-centric triband GSM device with UMTS support. The E61 is an email-centric quadband GSM device with UMTS support that sports a full QWERTY keyboard. The E70 is a hybrid messaging device that sports a QWERTY thumbboard for text entry - it will be available in two triband GSM variants, one of which also supports UMTS networks.

 

The devices should start shipping in Q1 of 2006, according to Nokia.
