Jo, men når jeg åpner .avi-filmen i VirtualDub kommer denne meldingen:

"Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'dvsd'

VirtualDub requires a video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video.bla bla bla"

Hva skal jeg gjøre a? Har jo installert DivX 5 Pro GAIN bundle...

Mye rart man må søke etter

Problems with DV compressed video.

Virtualdub is great. You can apply a wide variety of video filters to an existing file. Smart Resize and Smart Deinterlacer are just two of those. Virtualdub also allows you to capture video off devices such as TV cards. Alas, capturing from a mini DV camera doesn't work, and that is why we had to use Videostudio. Even the AVI file created by Videostudio cannot be read in Virtualdub; try to open one and you'll see the message

"Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'dvsd' (unknown)".

That is because Virtualdub requires a 'Video for Windows' source, and cannot use DirectShow sources which is used by software such as Media Player.

The solution to this is called AVISynth. It's a free DLL (easily installed) that can perform a lot of video operations. The function we're using is called frameserving. For a certain AVI file, say test004.AVI, you just create the following textfile (with Notepad for example).

DirectShowSource("test004.AVI", fps=25)

Give this textfile the .AVS extension (not .TXT) and open it in Virtualdub (File/Open video file). You'll see it works !

Note : apparently older versions of AVISynth did not require the fps parameter.
