The mobility 9700 pro does not exist. It is made up by the shops.
The A64 pc will be substantially faster, but it will also have a lot less battery life and get hotter, and it will be noisier.
So I'd go for #1.

a 2.0 dothan uses about the same amount of power as a 1.7 banias.... fyi! =)

13.06" : 8.16" : 15.4" ~
Correct. And for a 4:3 15" the numbers would be 12"x9". So the 16:9 15.4" gives you an area of 688 cm^2 and the 4:3 15" gives you an area of 697 cm^2 (1.3% increase).
That also explains why I find that a 1680x1050 15.4" widescreen is too "small" for my eyes, while a 1400x1050 14.1" suits me perfectly.
-> Most notebooks are 16:10 for some reason. Most LCD television screens are 16:9, and some even 15:9.

I'm Danish so I might be reading this wrong.. but a wireless connection gives you no where near the speed you get from a cabled connection, like 100mbit or 1gbit.
802.11b wlan: 11Mbps, in practical use: 5Mbps
802.11g wlan: 54Mbps, in practical use: 18-20Mbps
Fast Ethernet: 100Mbps, in practical use: 80-90Mbps!

Ah ok... I'm not sure it's illegal though - they probably have some small text at the bottom saying "we're not responsible for any misinformation or wrong figures blabla" =)
It appears though, that these double layer notebook drives really do exist, so I was wrong:
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-152-028&depa=1
-
Dual format: Drive burns both DVD+R and DVD-R.
Dual layer (Double layer to be correct): The drive can burn double layer discs - 8.5 GB pr. DVD - these discs are very expensive at the moment though.
I seriously doubt that there are ANY notebook optical drives that will do double layer - the desktop drives have only just begun shipping ..

Skal du ha optisk innebygget er ibm x31 et alternativ, klarer du deg med ekstern cd/dvd så kan du gå for x40
the x-series don't have optical drives..
Asus M5N is also a possibility.

Knut
One of my friends has the latitude version of 8600 - it's still quite a bit worse in terms of construction quality, compared to my IBM T41 and my friends' X31s.

so cool.. I want one :-(

xga: 1024x768
sxga: 1280x1024 (not available on laptops, I think you mean sxga+ which is 1400x1500)
uxga: 1600x1200

Mm, there's also a lot of people in the world who buy P4 notebooks instead of a centrino, thinking the P4 must be better because it's clocked higher, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's the best notebook for the money though.
-
Don't worry too much about the specs.
I got a "Crisp Suit" bag for my IBM T41p, delivered from the US for 750 DKR, and even though the t41p won't fit theoretically with its extended battery, I have had no problems fitting it.
-
Kalles vel "Centrino 2" laptopene med Dothan og 54mbps wlan?
no.
centrino 2 won't be out till next year or so...
and to make things completely clear:
Centrino =
Intel 855 chipset
Intel 802.11b, 802.11 b/g or 802.11 a/b/g wireless nic
Intel Pentium-M (either Banias core or Dothan core, banias has 1mb L2 cache, dothan has 2mb)
-
I don't think the 1557 is plasticky at all - it feels very solid, and doesn't squirk or creak at all when I move it around... it's possible that the keyboard is worse on the 1557 than on my father's amilo m7400, because I think it's not the same on the two machines (colour isn't, at least)
I can't see how a stripe of aluminium on the top surface can do anything to the solidity of the notebook??? I think it's mainly there for show
here is the amilo m7400:
-
Well I have used both (under different brands though, but essentially the same machines), and I think the first one is more solid - the second one is solid too, but feels a bit more "plasticky".
-
yep IBM has.. bought mine in Switzerland, and I only have to ship it to a Danish service center for repairs. But I think it might depend on the model/warranty programme - mine has the one called "3 year extended warranty"
-
hey!
the winbond card reader in this computer:
(also known as Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo M7400)
how fast is it? is it faster than for instance USB 1.1?
-
I dislike widescreen. It makes the notebooks so big and heavy, the games look bad, especially warcraft 3, the only thing it's good for is watching movies - where you will STILL get some black bars, when watching 16:9 movies, because you're notebook actually is 16:10, and not 16:9.
I've had widescreen, I have 4:3 now, and I love it.

There is no "Danish t41p" or "Norwegian t41p".
There are only the model numbers - I'm pretty sure the one on laptops.dk is a GGU, which means it only has 802.11b wireless.
I have a T41p with Danish keyboard, but it's a GEU - the T41p topmodel, which comes with the IBM a/b/g wireless card.
Btw some of the laptop.dk models DO NOT come with IBMs international warranty, because of the way laptop.dk imports them (outside of IBM Denmark) - so you have to check with laptop.dk if the model you are looking at, comes with IBM warranty, or laptop.dks own warranty.
-
you mean 4200 rpm
Acer has a precedence for going with 4200rpm in their notebooks.. if you can't find any info on the hd-speed, it's probably 4200 rpm
-
x40 doesn't have longer battery life than x31 - with its standard battery it's rated at 2.5 hours, where as the x31 can go 4 hours..

for those of you interested (seems to be a lot) - battery life still sucks :/
Kjøpe Brukt PC, T41P eller T42P?

There's a huge difference between T41 and T41p
The T42p is not worth the added price.
