Official Response to the September 11th Attack

According to the official story of the 9/11/01 attack, that day saw:

• The largest failure in the history of the U.S. military to defend against foreign attack, including:
  • The failure to protect the World Trade Center from terrorist attack, even though the landmark was targeted in 1993 and was a known terrorist target.
  • The failure to protect the Pentagon despite well over an hour of warning time, and the availability of interceptors at Andrews Air Force Base just 11 miles away.
• The largest security failure in the history of civil aviaition, involving four successful hijackings, with the total failure of hijacking countermeasures.
• The three largest and most mysterious structural failures in world history -- the total collapses of WTC Buildings 1, 2, and 7.

If one peels away the outermost layer of the official story to reveal the numerous reports of warnings of terrorist attacks on the U.S. from other nations and from domestic agencies such as FBI field offices, the failures appear even more damning.

Yet with all these failures, no official involved in the response to the attack received so much as a reprimand. The "investigations" that followed were investigations in name only, lacking any meaningful powers and the will required to discover the nature of the failures on 9/11/01.

Rental Car, Koran, Arabic Flight Manuals, Credit Cards, Luggage, -- Thanks Atta!

Mohammed Atta, we were told, attempted to check not one but two suitcases on his final suicide trip. One of the bags was said to contain flight training videos and a copy of the Koran. His rental car, seized in a Logan parking garage on September 11th, was said to contain Arabic-language flight training manuals. ¹   The terrorists, we were told, used their own credit cards to purchase their tickets.

Why would people who were so clever at evading the authorities for years, suddenly start leaving an obvious trail? Why would they behave so as to reveal all manner of operational details while the supposed parent organization would not even take responsibility for the attack?

    This paper examines energy flows in the collapse of the North Tower, and presents a case that expansion of the dust cloud immediately following its collapse constituted a thermal energy sink many times the size of the presumed energy source -- the gravitational potential energy of the tower.

    This paper examines the first few seconds of the North Tower's collapse after a detailed review of the fires based on NIST's data, and shows that collapse progressed far too rapidly to be explained without the involvement of demolition.

  • 9/11 - Acceleration Close to Free Fall [PDF] by Frank Legge (Ph D)

    This paper examines the rate of descent of WTC 7 using measurements of a video that shows the top half of the building. It shows that the facade's rate of descent closely matches the rate of gravitational free-fall.

  • NIST Data Disproves Collapse Theories Based on Fire [PDF] by Frank Legge (Ph D)

    This paper briefly reviews the major collapse theories of the Twin Towers and then zooms in on a key assertion of NIST: that the North Tower was "poised for collapse" prior to experiencing "global collapse". Legge uses NIST's own data to show that, at 10:28, WTC 1 was not "poised for collapse" and that the "collapse initiation" supposed by NIST could not have happened.

  • Analysis of the Mass and Potential Energy of World Trade Center Tower 1 by Gregory H. Urich

    This paper provides detailed data on the total mass and mass distrubtion of the North Tower (WTC 1), compiled from various sources including documents from NIST's investigation and leaked architectural plans of the skyscraper.

9-11 Research Advocates Civility

9-11 Research has received several complaints from ungrateful recipients of literature mentioning it. We even received a report of graffiti spelling out the companion site 911Review.com. It is tempting to think that the urgency of the message justifies intrusive campaigning methods. However, such methods are likely to be counterproductive. We recommend handing out literature, such as we provide here, as the best way of distributing it.

In early 2006 we became aware of a number of incidents connecting promotion of these websites with militance and vulgarity. We strongly discourage such tactics and note that they are counterproductive to our educational mission. We describe some of the incidents we have learned of on pages with specific disclaimers.

Since the inception of our research we have noticed efforts to inject racist ideologies such as anti-Semitism into analysis of the 9/11 attack -- efforts which effectively polarize people against questioning the official versions of events.

9-11 Research Stresses Verifiable Information and Rational Analysis

It is common to see links or references to 9-11 Research next to other sites promoting some of the most transparently nonsensical theories -- such as 911Review.org, which features ad hominem attacks against Jim Hoffman.

9-11 Research has built its reputation on verifiably sourced reporting, systematic and thorough collection and archiving of evidence, and rational, science-based analysis. It and its companion sites are extensively referenced by a wide range of websites and other productions, many without similar standards.

Readers seeing the URL or name of 9-11 Research on productions notable for unscientific, sensationalistic, or nonsensical approaches may form negative opinions of 9-11 Research without having seen the website. We have no control over who references our website or how they contextualize such references.

We have observed that efforts that function to mischaracterize or discredit 9-11 Research are varied, being intended and unintended, taking explicit and implicit forms, and coming from proponents and opponents of the official story. Acting as an apologist for the official story, Michael Shermer penned a column in Scientific American which explicitly misrepresented 9-11 Research as embracing the fire-melts-steel straw man argument, and implicitly misrepresented it by associating it with junk science and Holocaust denial. Such attacks work hand-in-hand with efforts to associate 9-11 Research with the junk science that is endemic in the literature of 9/11 skeptics. An example is described on this page:

Claims that no jetliners were involved in the attack on the World Trade Center, the attack Pentagon, or the crash in Pennsylvania have been aggressively promoted and featured in the mainstream media.
