Lockpicking guide First off, lets explain how lockpicking skill works. It is just like a weapon skill, meaning that everytime you level up, your lockpicking max skill amount goes up by 5, up to a total of 300 at level 60. This means that when you get the skill you should have a maximum of 70 (*I think you get this skill at 14 but I cna't remember exactly*). this will rise with everylevel. Onto how to raise your lockpicking skill. 70-105 - Alther's Mill (Redrdige Mountains) You receive a quest to go to Alther's mill and practice your skill there by opening boxes until you can open a big box. You can get your skill up to 105 from doing all those boxes. With these boxes if you right click on them, then the skill is automatically used. 105-175 - Klaven's Tower (Westfall) The Rogue lvl 20 quest requires you to go to Klaven's tower and do some roguey stuff, pcik the lock on the chest and get a book. Not too much of a problem, except anytime you unlock the chest you get Touch of Zanzil (*which can be cured with an anti-venom poison from any first-aider*). Everytime you unlock the chest you will renew the touch of zanzil on yourself. Not to bad really. The chest will go grey on 125. you have to manually select the lockpicking skill and then click on the chest. There are 2 seconds before the chest actually appears that you can click on it, use this to get as many in as you can if you are a low level and have only sapped Klaven. 175-225 - Scarlet Monastary (Tirisfal Glades) A bit tough for some, but by the level where you cna get it up to 225 (*45*) this place should be no trouble for you as a rogue. you can pick the two doors that lead to the instance, you can also pick the lock on the door to Herod and the Cathedral door. Entering the instances for more than 3 minutes will reset the doors on the outside. You can sue this time to practice pickpocketing a bit and get yourself some nice boxes to get your skill up. You have to manually select the lockpicking skill and use it on the doors. 225-275 - Path to Searing Gorge (Loch Modan) There are 2 gates at each end of the tunnel to Searing Gorge in south-western Loch Modan. You can pick one then walk to the next, pick it and by the time you get back you can pick the first one again. You should be able to do this all the way up to 275. A good time to work on is 3minute reset timer for each door. You have to manually select the lockpicking skill and use it on the doors. 275-300 - Blackrock Depths (Burning Steppes) From what I've read there are 4 doors here to unlock, and they will take your skill all the way up to 300 and should still be yellow ; ) You have to manually select the lockpicking skill and use it on the doors. ------------------------- Supplmental Lockpicking For other people: Iron Forge is the BEST place to get your lockpicking skill up and often you might make some money out of it. Charging for lockpicking is up to youm personally. I do it for free ; ) Some people will trade the box to you for you to open it, others will put it in the Not To Be Traded box, in either case you ahve to activate teh lockpicking skill and when your cursor changes left click on the box. Gnomeregan: Surprisingly you can also pick the three workshop doors in Gnomeregan, and they should pop your skill up to just over 200. I haven't fully tested this or spent the time to work out the higher and lower values but if you are there and need to get your skill up a bit, go for it ; ) ------------------------- PATCH NOTES - 7/3/05 For patch dated 18/3/05 A number of areas in the world now have footlockers in them. These areas are in place for rogues to visit to increase their lockpicking skills. The contents of these footlockers are only token amounts of treasure, but they should allow for a more interesting experience while increasing lockpicking skill. The difficulty of the locks in the area correspond to the level of the zone, so if your lockpicking skill is around 100, you would go to Durnholde Keep in Hillsbrad. But if your skill is 250, you might head to Tyr’s Hand in Eastern Plaguelands. Hillsbrad Foothills - Durnholde Keep Redridge Mountains - Lake Everstill Ashenvale Forest - Zoram Strand Stonetalon Mountains - Windshear Crag and Associated Mines Wetlands - Murloc Camps Desolace - Sar'theris Strand Badlands - Angor Fortress Swamp of Sorrows - Pool of Tears Searing Gorge - The Slag Pit Tanaris Desert - Lost Rigger Cove Azshara - Bay of Storms Eastern Plaguelands - Tyr's Hand (elite) When these go live it will be a brilliant supplement for if you are stuck for some lockpikcing and you should get some goodies out of it ; )
