Fant en test av AMD 64 Turion.

Acer Aspire AS5000 Review

In our initial tests, we found that the Turion is no Pentium M killer, but it shows promise and is a worthy competitor to In-tel's processors.

PC MAGAZINE has the first worldwide AMD Turion Notebook. The Acer Aspire AS5000 costs only $1099 direct and boosts a 64bit processor, 512MB DDR memeory and a 60GB hard drive on top of a DVD writer. PCMag seems to prefer the Dell Centrino-based Inspiron 6000 because it is less expensive, has more life battery, performs better and weighs less.

PS: Noen som har andre Turion 64 tester? Sett lite av dem.. :hmm:

The biggest question about a Turion-equipped notebook is whether it will perform well while sustaining good battery life. We ran several performance and battery tests in order to test the Aspire 5000 and the Turion 64. Overall, the Aspire AS5000 performed admirably, especially for a value system. BatteryMark results were good, as were SYSMark 2004 scores.

The Acer's Turion is rated above the two Pentium Ms in processor power, at 35 watts (although Intel and AMD measure this differently). The Turion 64–based Acer has a larger screen, which draws more power from the battery, but it also has a larger battery, which offsets that.

Benchmark results

The biggest question about a Turion-equipped notebook is whether it will perform well while sustaining good battery life. We ran several performance and battery tests in order to test the Aspire 5000 and the Turion 64. Overall, the Aspire AS5000 performed admirably, especially for a value system. BatteryMark results were good, as were SYSMark 2004 scores. The Aspire 5000 uses integrated graphics, courtesy of SiS Corp., and though this is fine for Web browsing and DVD playback, don't expect to run many games on the Aspire 5000.
We got our hands on the Acer Aspire 5000—the first system to ship with the AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology ML-30 (Turion 64 for short).

[...]

The Aspire 5000 uses a 1.6-GHz Turion 64 processor. We acquired two Intel notebooks with similar configurations. The Dell Latitude D610 has the latest-generation Centrino solution, including the new 1.6-GHz Pentium M 730 with a 533-MHz FSB. Gateway's M210 has an older Centrino chip, including the 1.6-GHz Pentium M 725 with a 400-MHz FSB.

All three test units have the same processor clock speed, similar RAM, and integrated graphics. The two Intel notebooks have 14.1-inch screens; the Acer's screen is larger, at 15.4 inches. Screen size plays a role in battery life, because bigger screens tend to drain the battery more. The battery's size is another factor affecting longevity; larger bat-teries last longer. The Latitude D610 and Gateway M210 have smaller batteries (53-Wh and 49-Wh, respectively) than the Acer's 65-Wh battery.

The Acer's Turion is rated above the two Pentium Ms in processor power, at 35 watts (although Intel and AMD measure this differently). The Turion 64–based Acer has a larger screen, which draws more power from the battery, but it also has a larger battery, which offsets that.
